Job Description:
Director of Greek Life

Louisiana State University invites applications for the position of Director of Greek Life. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students, the Director of Greek Life will provide strategic leadership for initiatives that enhance the learning experience, leadership capacity, and sense of belonging for members of the sorority and fraternity community. The Director provides comprehensive leadership to the Greek Life professional staff team and the student community comprised of 38 chapters across three governing councils (Interfraternity, National Pan-Hellenic, and Panhellenic). The Director is a key leader in helping to advance the priorities of the Division of Student Affairs.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEADERSHIP

Reimagine sorority and fraternity advising

The Director will have the opportunity and freedom to re-examine commonly accepted “best practices” in the field to create an LSU-centric approach to serving students in the sorority and fraternity community.

Develop a collaborative model to address health and safety

Building a safe and healthy sorority and fraternity culture is the result of strategic and coordinated efforts—it can be done. At this critical juncture for the LSU sorority and fraternity community, the elimination of hazing and other high-risk behaviors are top priorities. Consequently, there is an opportunity to build a culture of care and concern by creating a model that draws from research and public health strategies. LSU is invested in creating the industry standard for this work.

Increase access to the sorority and fraternity community

Every student deserves the opportunity to join a sorority or fraternity. To this end, the Director will critically examine current policies, practices, and artifacts within Greek Life to identify, address, and remove barriers to access and inclusion for LSU students.

Improve strategic partnerships

A thriving sorority and fraternity community requires support from the entire campus ecosystem; sorority and fraternity advisors cannot do this work alone. The Director will improve strategic partnerships for Greek Life by examining longstanding practices to ensure relevance, building on practices that have been successful, and collaboratively creating innovative approaches tailor-made for the LSU community. There is an opportunity to strengthen relationships with departments across campus, alumni stakeholders, house corporation members, chapter leaders, and (inter)national partners to bolster the learning experience, leadership capacity, and sense of belonging for members of the sorority and fraternity community.

ATTRIBUTES OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

Maintains a deep appreciation for the educational and social value of a diverse community and has demonstrated commitment to inclusive and accessible programs, services, events, and experiences.

Does not start with “no” when addressing student concerns or requests, but instead works to find innovative ways to solve problems and meet student needs.

Embraces a “progress not perfection” approach when working with college students understanding that every situation provides a teachable moment.

Possesses the ability to navigate complex systems while building relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.

Can communicate with clarity, direction, and conviction in person, in written communication, and in virtual spaces.

Is a decisive and confident decision-maker.

Has the desire to advocate for the student experience while also supporting institutional and divisional priorities and initiatives.
