HERFF JONES, Manufacturing Training Coordinator – Indianapolis, IN
Your Opportunity:
The Herff Jones Fine Paper Production Team is looking for a Manufacturing Training Coordinator to join our team in Indianapolis, IN.
Here’s How You’ll Make an Impact:
This position is responsible for partnering with departments in the development, delivery, coordination, and documentation of technical training for various manufacturing roles, impacting both employee performance and operational effectiveness.
As a member of the Indy Production Team, you will work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment printing high school and college announcements and diplomas to help our customers celebrate some of their greatest achievements. While you’ll lean heavily on your technical abilities, your greatest assets will be your drive and commitment to operate various pieces of machinery successfully, and your ability to train and develop your teammates to operate that same machinery. The goal is to provide new and current employees with the skills necessary to perform their job well, so that the whole team can function at optimum efficiency. We live and work in a team environment and rely heavily on each other to assist across a variety of functions and on various machines, so if you have a desire to train others and a passion for efficient performance, we want you!
What We Want You to Accomplish:
First 60 Days:
Understanding of manufacturing equipment that produces Fine Paper product.
Work with managers to assess the current training materials in use and update, develop or support managers in creating new training materials for each position.
First 120 days:
Ability to run manufacturing equipment that produces Fine Paper product.
Ability to take current best practices and translate into simple, functional work instructions and in-depth training program.
Begin training new hires on machine operations.
Develop and implement a system for tracking employee trainings, including reminders for potential certification expirations or retraining requirements.
Begin designing a system to evaluate training effectiveness with metric-based data to include time to onboard, quality, production, and employee retention.
First 180 Days:
Create post-training feedback process (surveys, interviews, etc.) for continuous evaluation of training program and materials. Analyze trends and adjust training design, as necessary.
Implement metric-based data collection system and maintain accurate records.
At the direction of management, work with current staff on any potential training needs to improve performance.
What You’ll Be Doing On A Daily Basis:
Partner with managers to review existing training programs; suggest enhancements and modifications to improve engagement, learning, quality, productivity, and retention and/or to meet the changing needs of the organization.
Design and create appropriate, role-specific training materials for a variety of positions to reflect current operating processes and procedures to include operator and skill trades training and certifications.
Provide coaching and feedback to employees and managers regarding performance and productivity. Map out development plans for teams and individuals, as needed.
Deliver training to employees using a variety of instructional techniques.
Assist in the evaluation of training programs by analyzing and tracking specific metrics including, time-to-train, quality, productivity, and retention.
Maintain a working knowledge of current and changing processes for continuous updates to training materials and documentation, as needed.
Monitor and track employee training completion records and update files accordingly.
What You’ll Bring to the Table:
High School or GED required
Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred
Experience in a high production manufacturing environment, or similar industry required.
1-2 years of training experience required, preferably in machine operations. Must include training facilitation and an ability to adapt to different learning styles and current trends.
An ability to assess training effectiveness and determine the impact of training on employee skills and performance.
Proven success to effectively communicate (listening, writing and verbal) across all levels of an organization. Strong detail-orientation with the ability to read, interpret and explain various concepts.
INTERMEDIATE skills with Microsoft Office and learning new systems/technology with understanding some work is processed manually.
Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to changing requirements.
Physical Requirements:
Daily activity includes but is not limited to lifting, carrying, sitting, grasping, reaching, standing, kneeling, walking, bending, twisting.
Reading, communication, simple math.
Standing on a fatigue mat in a specific area throughout a 10 hour+ shift.
Be able to regularly lift/move up to 50lbs.
Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to above average.
