Salary Range: $4,304.00/month and $6,120.00/month. PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary will be between $4,304.00/month and $5,212.00/month.

About the Position

Under the supervision of the Director, the Student Life and Leadership Advisor, Academic Clubs & Honor Societies is responsible for coordinating and developing student life and leadership events and programs designed to engage students in co-curricular learning opportunities, increase campus life, and develop lifelong leadership skills. The Student Life Advisor for Academic Clubs & Honors Societies works collaboratively with the campus community to increase co-curricular learning opportunities for students, faculty, and staff. Duties include assisting in the developing, advising and oversight of student academic clubs/organizations and honor societies; facilitating the ongoing recognition, renewal and maintenance of student academic clubs/organizations and honor societies; coordinating a variety of co-curricular academic programs to support campus life; assisting in the planning and coordinating of leadership engagement activities, including the annual Fall Student Leadership Conference and semesterly leadership workshops; and assisting in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the overall student leadership development program. In addition, this position assists in the coordinating of co-curricular program evaluation efforts and uses extensive communications knowledge regarding web page design, social networking, and new technology. The Student Life Advisor for Academic Clubs & Honor Societies provides lead work direction to several student program assistants.

Responsibilities

Assist in the developing, advising and oversight of academic student clubs and organizations, honor societies, and academic-focused Greek Lettered Organizations and special interest groups

Facilitate the ongoing recognition, renewal and maintenance of student clubs and organizations in the Academic Clubs/Honor Societies category.

Assist in planning and coordinating co-curricular campus life events, programs, and activities, in coordination with academic student clubs/organizations and honor societies and academic colleges, departments and faculty.

Work closely with the Director to track the club and organization program budgets including monitoring and reporting student club expenditures.

Assist in managing the maintenance of clubs and organizations’ online presence, including maintaining and updating web pages and social networking pages.

Assist in the planning, coordinating and executing a variety of leadership activities

Contribute actively to the planning, implementation and evaluation of the overall student leadership development program, including the Annual Fall Student Leadership Conference, leadership workshops, and the annual Leadership Awards program.

Assist in the designing and implementation of the leadership evaluation efforts.

Participate in the leadership mission through conducting presentations, facilitating workshops and participating in leadership training and retreats.

Assist in the coordination of a variety of co-curricular events and programs to support campus life

Assist in the planning and coordinating of campus life events, including but not limited to co-curricular events during Homecoming and Welcome Week activities.

Work closely and collaborate with other Student Affairs professionals and university staff, participate in regular staff meetings, serve as a member of various work groups and committees, and represent Student Life and Leadership at University functions and on University committees, as required.

Assist in the coordination of program evaluation efforts

Assist in the development of co-curricular program evaluation tools for campus life and leadership programs

Assist and support student clubs and organization leaders with developing program assessment and evaluation tools.

Maintain web pages and social networking sites

Use knowledge of communications and technology to provide guidance regarding webpage design, updates, social networking, and new technology.

Required Qualifications

General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends in the field of Student Affairs.

General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends in student leadership programs.

Understanding of the principles of individual and group behavior and basic counseling techniques.

Ability to work with a diverse student and campus population.

Experience advising and supporting student clubs and organizations.

Ability to interpret federal, state, and university policies and procedures regarding student conduct, hazing, and drug and alcohol use.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and through the use of various technologies including the web and social networking platforms.

Ability to work with web-based programs and applications for communication, data gathering and analysis.

Ability to establish a cooperative working relationship with students, student organizations, campus departments, and the public.

Ability to work independently and represent the Department at designated University functions.

Ability to carry out a variety of moderately complex assignments without detailed instructions.

Ability to work on multiple projects with multiple deadlines and objectives.

Ability to work with constant interruptions in a somewhat noisy environment.

Evening and weekend work required.

Knowledge of social networking trends and related computer skills.

Strong knowledge of Google Apps including Docs, Slides, and Sheets and the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:
Equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

Two years of experience in campus life, student leadership, advising, or student support services is preferred.

Working knowledge of student leadership development issues including policies, procedures and practices to produce educationally and philosophically sound programs.

Working knowledge of student development theory and research.

Ability to employ positive advising and counseling skills.

Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively with a variety of on-and off-campus constituents.

Ability to design and update electronic media including those that are web based and/or use internet technology.

Ability to act and use excellent judgment in a fast paced, service-oriented daily operation.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Condition(s) of Employment

Satisfactory completion of a background check that may include, but is not limited to: criminal records check, verification of academic credentials, licenses, certificates, credit history, professional references and/or verification of work history is required for employment.
