Position Summary
Trinity College is a highly selective, independent, nonsectarian liberal arts institution located in Connecticut’s capital, Hartford, proudly approaching its Bicentennial in 2023. With over 2100 full-time undergraduate students and 91 graduate students, the College maintains a rigorous academic profile complemented by a vibrant and diverse co-curricular program. The Director will focus on the strategic planning, development, and implementation of the College’s initiatives associated with student social housing. Serving an integral role in student life, the Director of Campus Life Initiatives will be responsible for advising sixteen Greek-letter organizations on campus, and providing additional support to the advisors and students of the theme/social houses. There is immense opportunity to design and realize dynamic programming between the theme/social houses connected to the wider campus community. This highly collaborative role with colleagues and staff across campus will support students with regards to health, wellness, and the students’ overall wellbeing.
The Director will report to the Dean of Community Life and Standards. The position will be focused on working with students that live in the social houses and connecting them with the resources to support their educational and professional success. The incumbent will work with the Office of Student and Community Life staff to supplement the academic and personal advising needs of students that live in the 20 social houses
Duties and Responsibilities
Although the majority of the position will function as described in the job description, some aspects are subject to change due to evolving departmental needs.
Community Standards
Assist students with understanding their responsibility to uphold the Integrity Contract as members of the Trinity community.
Administer the College’s Social Host Policy in cooperation with the Student Activities Involvement and Leadership office, which allows students from the Greek Letter Organizations and college houses to hold social events that comply with safety precautions from a risk management perspective.
Conduct semester trainings for all chapter members regarding risk management practices and procedures. Includes facilitation of TIPS training for all new members, and working with Bystander Intervention trainer and the Title IX Office to conduct semester workshops for all Greek students.
Serve as the 24-hour on-call resource for all Greek Life-related matters, including anonymous reporting, ensuring safety at chapter-owned houses, conducting social event checks with security staff, managing individual student crises, and assisting with after-hours chapter concerns.
Collaborative Partnerships
Collaborate with the Career Development Center, Alumni Relations, and academic departments to identify and recruit alumni/ae for programs and mentoring networks.
Partner with colleagues from across campus to help students transition and acclimate to Trinity, as well as learn about opportunities while enrolled. Areas of focus include Experiential Learning & Academic Support, Residential Learning & Transitions, Spiritual & Religious Life, Leadership Development, Community & Civic Engagement, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Wellness, Safety & Support, and Financial Wellness & Transitions.
Programming
Coordinate formal fraternity/sorority recruitment and membership intake with the Inter-Greek Council, Panhellenic Council, and Multicultural Greek Council and training leaders to ensure compliance between the chapters, potential new members, and recruitment chairs in accordance with international guidelines.
Design, execute, assess, and evaluate programs for leaders of social houses to assist them in managing groups, facilities, budgets, inclusivity of programming, and develop marketing and publicity materials.
Training and Supervision
Serve as the direct advisor for sixteen Greek letter organizations under the National Panhellenic Conference, National Interfraternal Conference, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and National Association of Latino Fraternal Organization, as well as the Inter-Greek Council, comprising 25% of the student population.
Provide leadership and advisement to Greek Letter Organizations, in addition to eight social-themed and four cultural communities, by working directly with them to develop their leadership skills in an effort to promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful campus.

Operations and Administrative Processes
Serve as a liaison between the College Board of Trustees and administration, chapter House Corporations, Alumni boards, students, and local, national, and international representatives to ensure open lines of communication.
Administer the College’s Social Host Policy in cooperation with the Student Activities Involvement and Leadership office, which allows students from the Greek Letter Organizations and college houses to hold social events that comply with safety precautions from a risk management perspective.
Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Community Life and Standards.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is expected to have broad and relevant experience in fraternity and sorority life, activity planning, student advising/mentoring, and student leadership. A good understanding of liberal arts communities is preferred. Most importantly, good candidates should have a passion for mentorship and deliberate interaction with students. The following should be included in the candidate’s skill set:
A master’s degree in student affairs, counseling, higher education, college student personnel, or a related field.
A minimum of 3-years of relevant experience
Strong commitment to the liberal arts experiences along with evidence of an appreciation for working in a diverse community.
Must be familiar with fraternity and sorority life, including understanding national policies, various associations/umbrellas, and recruitment practices specific to each national organization/council (i.e. formal Panhellenic recruitment).
Ability to adapt leadership style to the unique needs and interests of the student population.
Experience in leading a student organization and/or involvement in leadership programs.
Experience managing professionalism with staff, faculty, students, alumni, and national offices.
Flexibility in schedule to be able to work nights and weekends.
Superior time management skills with a good ability to multitask. Strong problem-solving skills are an important asset.
Excellent attention to detail (e.g management of a small budget) and evidence of good judgment and strong work ethic.
Good communication skills, both orally and in writing are essential.
