Preferred Qualifications: Agency Account Executive or Assistant Account Executive experience. Event marketing and planning experience within a University environment is a plus. Candidate should be a self-starter and able to exhibit creativity and have the ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines, prioritize workload, and function as a team. Data analysis (survey data, traffic reporting etc.) experience. Experience working with some design programs desirable. Knowledge or experience working with students in a student union or university environment. Supervisory experience preferred, specifically with student employees. Higher Education experience is a plus.
Salary range: $59,000 – $65,000, DOQ
POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position is responsible for providing marketing direction and implementation as well as public relations for assigned areas of Student Unions & Activities (SUA) and Student Affairs. These may include: University Job & Internship Fair, Multicultural Student Engagement, Greek Life Leadership Minor, Homecoming, Spring Jam and national acts planned by coordinators. The position reports to the Marketing Director and is part of the marketing team which serves the department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Initiate, design, develop and implement marketing strategy with Student Activities staff to plan, create, evaluate and set goals for SUA’s Homecoming and Spring Jam events.
Alongside Marketing Director, provide strategic direction on vision, alignment, and resource allocation for marketing, branding, and advertising activities for the University of Minnesota Homecoming and Spring Jam
Develop and ensure implementation of SUA social media marketing plans for above mentioned areas.
Work cross-functionally with Student Activities and event and entertainment coordinators to determine campus wide strategy for Homecoming and Spring Jam to elevate exposure within the University community.
Direct and/or participate in the ideation of Homecoming and Spring Jam campaign design, planning, production, and measurement of a wide range of communications, designs, promotions, websites and social media.
Direct internal designers on how to implement Student Union & Activities and Student Affairs branding to ensure appropriate brand usage.
Work with marketing staff, student activities staff and the University community to develop strategies and tactics on content, visuals, and maintaining brand standards for SUA’s Homecoming and Spring Jam events
Evaluate social media and web effectiveness, including: daily posts, campaigns, web designs, user experiences, and content management.
Identify and establish media relationships and partnerships with internal and external sources.
Supervise and direct student marketing assistants, including hiring, training, delegating and evaluating performance.
Direct execution of marketing tactics and campaign materials to marketing assistants, design and web team.
Project and manage annual marketing budget for Homecoming and Spring Jam
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Student Unions & Activities (SUA) is a department within the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Affairs at the University of Minnesota. SUA provides a variety of programs and services to the University community that enhance the social, educational, and cultural environment of the University of Minnesota. This includes retail services, facility rental, space for individual and group activities, entertainment and educational programs, oversight of student activities, and involvement with diverse student groups.
SUA operates three facilities: Coffman Memorial Union on the East Bank campus, the St. Paul Student Center, and retail services on the West Bank campus. The department has an annual budget of $16.8 million. SUA is funded by student fees and revenue generated by the department.
The department has a total of 65 fulltime staff, representing all employee groups except faculty, and 250 student employees. SUA provides opportunities for students to enrich and complement their academic experience by integrating student learning outcomes with student employment.
The Student Activities area advises a campus-wide program board, registers and advises student groups, acts as a liaison to student cultural groups, and provides leadership programs.
