Job Description Summary
The Associate Director of the Office of Sexual Violence Prevention and Education will be a key member of the University of Pennsylvania’s effort to provide prevention and education programs for the students, faculty, and staff about sexual violence, domestic/dating violence, and stalking. The Associate Director will assist the Director to inform the Penn community about information and resources focused on relevant state and federal laws around sexual violence, relationship violence, stalking, and sexual harassment as well as the educating the campus community about Penn’s expectations and regulations including but not limited to the Sexual Violence, Relationship Violence and Stalking Policy, Sexual Harassment Policy. The Associate Director, in consultation with the Director, will be responsible for working with existing Penn Violence Prevention programming efforts and initiatives to identify root causes and environmental factors and partner with various resources to address them. The Associate Director will work with campus partners to reimagine, promote, and refine educational programming around sexual violence, domestic/dating violence, and stalking, to be administered through throughout the academic year for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, domestic and international.
Job Description
Specific Responsibilites/Duties include:
- Assist the Director to expand and implement comprehensive campus-wide trainings for students, staff and faculty on sexual violence, relationship violence, stalking, and harassment
- Plan, implement, and evaluate sustainable educational programs designed to meet the needs of Penn’s diverse student body with specific focus on engaging underrepresented communities
- Collaborate with key campus partners, including the Penn Women’s Center, Division of Public Safety, Office of Fraternity & Sorority, College Houses and Academic Services, the Title IX Officer, cultural resource centers, and the four undergraduate schools
- Oversee and develop educational initiatives for incoming students including the Thrive at Penn module, New Student Orientation, and ongoing programming for all four undergraduate classes
- Represent and promote the office at various outreach events, including building relationships with student organizations such as the Undergraduate Assembly, 6B, and Greek-letter organizations
- Assist in the planning and facilitation of annual programming, including New Student Orientation, RA/GA training, the Anti-Violence Advocate Training for faculty/staff and the Supporting Survivors training for students
- Supervise graduate assistants, interns, and student workers as needed
- Assist with creation and dissemination of informational resources, website content, and educational media campaigns
- Provide advocacy, support, and referrals for students impacted by sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking
Qualifications:
MA/MS required, preferably in education, counseling, social work, gender studies, public health, or other related fields plus 1-2 years of experience in violence prevention and education and response or related field, preferably in a campus setting or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated understanding of the complex issues surrounding sexual violence education and engagement, support and response for college-age populations. Experience providing trauma-informed and culturally relevant presentations to diverse constituencies. Ability to handle confidential information sensitively and to use sound judgment in responding to crisis situations. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with student, faculty and administrative partners. Strong oral, written and technological skills. Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
