Education Coordinator (Gender Equity and Violence Prevention)

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Flora Stone Mather Center is a community space and a social innovator advancing women and gender equity through research-informed action. The Education Coordinator delivers evidence-based educational workshops and trainings. This position will be responsible for recommending and implementing new peer education initiatives for the university that are inclusive of women of color, trans and non-binary, and men-identified communities. Additionally, the coordinator will participate in university committees and support the work of the Associate Director for Research.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coordinate outreach initiatives including podcast project, “It’s On CWRU” violence prevention campaign as well as passive programming such as tabling during orientation, welcome week, and throughout the academic year. Collaborate with University Marketing and Communications, utilize social media, Wisr Mentoring Software, newsletters, weekly announcements, impact reports, and annual reports to promote the Center’s education initiatives. (20%)

Promote, schedule, and assist in delivery evidence-based educational programs for students, staff, and faculty regularly at the Center and across campus by request. Current programs include Bringing in the Bystander and Informed-U. (20%)

Research, recommend and assist in the development of new evidence-based education initiatives for students, staff, and faculty at the university that promotes feminist perspectives and gender equity that are inclusive of women of color, trans and non-binary, and men-identified communities. (15%)

Assist the Assistant Director of Research with education, evaluation, and outreach aspects of center and university-wide initiatives. (10%)

Research, recommend and assist in the development of new peer education initiative. Assist in training and supporting student peer educators. (15%)

Collect and analyze assessment on participant learning outcomes, program satisfaction, as well as skills, behaviors, and attitude change. Utilize results to recommend center programs, suggest research initiatives, and prepare annual impact report. (10%)

Represent the Center by attending university and community events, serve on designated university and community committees, and may present on work at local, regional, and national conferences. Participate in teambuilding and university professional development opportunities. (10%)

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Perform other duties as assigned. (<1%)

CONTACTS

Department: Daily contact with Assistant Director and Director as well as other center staff for collaboration.

University: Daily contact with Student Affairs departments to support training on bystander intervention, safe sex, consent, healthy relationships, family support and women’s health to students, faculty and staff. Collaborate with University Health and Counseling Services, Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, the Office of Undergraduate Studies, The Equity Office, Graduate Studies, Greek Life, Housing, and Residence Life Services. Frequent contact with staff in the Office of Diversity, Office of Multicultural Affairs and the LGBT Center related to support in education and training.

External: Frequent contact with educators and clinicians at Cleveland Rape Crisis Center (CRCC), and local area medical facilities (University Hospitals, Cleveland Clinic, Planned Parenthood, Preterm, etc.) to collaborate on bringing content and educational resources to campus. Occasional contact with alumni and community supporters to promote and market programs. Occasional contact with non-university vendors to plan special events such as SEXAPOLOUSA and Sexual Assault Awareness month.

Students: Daily contact with undergraduate, graduate, and professional students at the university and its affiliates (Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland Institute of Music, Lerner, Kent State University Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, etc.) to collaborate on training requests and develop resources, training and educational materials related to prevention of sexual assault and gender-based violence. Provide advice and options for students seeking information on reproductive health.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Responsible for supervision of student peer educators.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 1 or more years of progressively responsible professional experience required.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Masters in higher education, education, public health, social work, counseling, women and gender studies or similar field is preferred.

Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of individuals, including age, race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic and educational background, and ability.

Must be able to maintain a creative, positive and inclusive work environment. Ability to create a welcoming environment marked by respect for others, where differences, inclusiveness, and diversity are valued and encouraged.

Demonstrated knowledge of the role of gender in social relations in institutions.

Ability to supervise students, student groups and facilitate group planning, help resolve issues as needed.

Ability to recruit, motivate and organize community volunteers.

Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment.

Excellent time and project management skills.

Must be self-motivated and able to prioritize multiple responsibilities to meet deadlines.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Willingness to take initiative and assist with general office tasks as needed.

Ability to work under pressure in a very busy environment and to manage multiple assignments that overlap in time.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Ability to meet consistent attendance.

Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face.

Good working knowledge of Word, Excel, and strong research skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to handle the fast pace of the office with multiple responsibilities. Must be willing and able to have a flexible schedule and work nights and weekends.
