DESCRIPTION

The Special Projects & Student Organizations Coordinator will support a variety of Center for Student Involvement programs and initiatives and advise student organizations as needed. Assigned projects will vary depending on departmental needs.

Advises student organization leaders on the development and implementation of programs, applicable policies and procedures, risk management, issues management, leadership development and organization management. Advising and programming should use a holistic approach with emphasis on enhancing individual and student organization development. Supports the development, implementation, and assessment of community service programs. Establish and maintain mutually beneficial partnerships with community and governmental agencies. Responsibilities include site development, identifying community partners, minimizing risk, training student leaders and student assistants, program assessment, and providing opportunities for education, training and reflection for student volunteers.

Develops communication and leadership trainings and coordinates, facilitates, and assesses student leadership programs as assigned. Provides leadership and advising on issues unique to the sorority & fraternity community as needed. Supports on-campus programming, education and risk prevention efforts. Assist with program planning, marketing, expansion and assessment. Work with the SFL team to collect, track, and analyze data and develop policy recommendations based on this research.

Using knowledge and skills as a seasoned, experienced Student Services professional, performs the full range of duties and responsibilities within a Student Life specialization. Assesses situations and determines appropriate action or referral. Works independently under general supervision to provide information and interpretation of complex policies, procedures and regulations. Identifies and responds to student needs for programs, services, and crisis intervention.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.Master’s degree preferred.

Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Demonstrated experience advising and counseling students, ability to provide guidance and advise in all aspects of program creation and planning, budget implementation, leadership development, problem solving, and assessment.

Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.

Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization. Demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge of student development, communication, leadership and diversity. Substantial experience translating theory to practice in the delivery of co-curricular programs and advising.

Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.

Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills. Self-motivated and able to manage independent projects, as well as to collaborate effectively with others.

Multicultural competencies, knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations.

Excellent oral and written communication skills including tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality, with ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor while interacting with a variety of individuals and groups at all levels of the university community from diverse socio-economic to cultural/ethnic backgrounds and to maintain confidentiality.

Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with diverse student and community populations, both orally and in writing.

Ability to provide work direction and development for student and graduate student staff.

Experience serving as a liaison to Greek alumni organizations, parents, community members, fraternity consultants, fraternity and sorority regional and international officers, fraternity and sorority headquarters, local Greek alumni organizations, chapter advisors, and parents of fraternity and sorority members and potential members.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

This position is a 100% career position for one year. The appointment may be extended for one additional year based on the needs of the department.

Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
