Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Residential Facilities is responsible for the maintenance, housekeeping and building security services for the College Park Campus’ 70+ residence halls, Greek chapter houses and recreational facilities encompassing over 2 million square feet. The Service Center operates 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It is the first point of contact for our facilities management operation; it processes over 50,000 service requests each year, manages more than 2,000 keys / access cards and coordinates response efforts to facilities and crisis incidents across the UMD campus. The Assistant Manager supports this fast-paced and dynamic environment. The position co-supervises 25-30 front-line part-time student staff and is a role model for staff on excellent customer service standards, and provides detail-oriented administrative management of critical daily processes and tasks. The Assistant Manager works with the part-time Student Supervisors, Service Center Manager, Assistant and Associate Directors, and other department staff to identify changes in procedures, processes, or expectations that affect the services to be provided and supported by Service Center Desk Associates. Serves as primary point person for hiring, training and supervision of student Service Center Desk Associates. Manages department-issued cell phones for assigned staff. Maintains the inventory of Service Center supplies, equipment and materials. Participates in a management on-call rotation. In the absence of the Service Center Manager, manages the operation of the Service Center and assists with providing a full-time supervisory presence at the Service Center. This position is supervised by the Service Center Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and minimum 3 years of progressively responsible full-time work experience in a management / administrative position.
Experience with hiring, training and supervising a part-time or undergraduate student workforce.
Excellent communication, problem solving, writing, customer service, critical thinking and organization skills.
Preferences:
Experience in higher education working with and providing services for college students.
Experience in coordinating administrative operations for a facilities management, campus housing or related service provider.
Experience serving in an on-call capacity.

Physical Demands
Walking in, around, and between campus facilities to conduct building inspections, including the use of steps. May rarely assist rarely in snow removal activities under extreme winter weather conditions (e.g., hand shoveling, manually applying de-icer chemicals, etc.), or, may provide assistance in preparing for extreme weather events (i.e., hurricanes, ice or wind storms). Able to lift boxes, bags or other articles weighing up to 25 pounds. Will spend significant time working on a computer, either sitting or standing.
