HERFF JONES, Group Lead- Print Production – Indianapolis, IN
Y our Opportunity:
The Herff Jones Fine Paper Production Team is looking for a Group Lead to join our team in Indianapolis, IN. This position is a lead for the Offset, Prepress & Digital Print departments.
This is a Regular Fulltime position with benefit eligibility including, medical, dental, vision, life, 401(k), paid time off, and additional voluntary benefits.
Shift: Standard shift is 6:00am – 4:45pm, Monday through Thursday or 6:00am – 4:45pm Tuesday through Friday, depending on Production Department.
Hours fluctuate to ten- and twelve-hour days if needed during peak season including Saturdays and Sundays if necessary due to customer demand. Seasons vary between January through end of May.

As a member of the Indy Production Team, you will work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment printing high school and college announcements and diplomas to help our customers celebrate some of their greatest achievements. What We Want You to Accomplish:
First 30 Days:
Understanding of process flow and all policies and procedures.
Working knowledge of product job tickets and specifications of the digital file being formatted.
First 60 days:
Active engagement in reducing quality remakes to less than 1%.
Maintaining scheduling assignments and production goals in the department.
Understand and report on daily production metrics to leaders.
First 90 Days:
Driving on time delivery to 99%.
Actively participating in process improvement activities.
Report personnel performance issues to supervisors and managers so they can address and coach.
What You’ll Be Doing On A Daily Basis:
Work within a team environment to achieve production goals in the Offset, Prepress & Digital Print departments.
Prepress tickets according to standard operating procedures, redirecting issues when found.
Supporting the Supervisor and Manager in communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and coaching personnel.
Utilize tools such as Adobe, Excel, Outlook, Oracle, and other technology to complete work.
Ensures quality of products being made by following and supporting organization standards.
Ensures operation of equipment and communicating when repairs are needed to the Supervisor.
Contributes to the development of a great work culture by setting the example of HJ’s Core Values.
Be a subject mater expert and support training of new team members within the Prepress Department.
Participate in proofing and determining root cause of failure points.
Communicate within and outside the department to clarify questions and keep production flow on target.
Maintain accurate production records to aid in production assessment and highlight key learning opportunities.
Team player and do what it takes attitude when other duties are assigned based on business demand.
What You’ll Bring to the Table:
High School Diploma or GED required.
1 to 2 years’ experience managing data files within InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop.
Utilize InDesign in producing output files for print, experience with DataMerge and or DesignMergePro a plus.
Understand vector separations as pertaining to design documents and layers within InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
Proven proficiency in using a variety of math functions to calculate document dimension specifications using various measurement systems (fractions, decimals, percentages, etc.)
Proven success, using Excel functions including concatenated, trim, proper name, etc
Physical Requirements:
Daily activity includes but is not limited to:
lifting, carrying, sitting, grasping, reaching, standing, kneeling, walking, bending, twisting.
Reading, communication, simple math.
Use of a step ladder to retrieve customer files as needed.
Being able to sit for long periods of time working at a computer.
Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
