Position Information

This is a full-time, permanent (probationary) position.

Conditions of Employment

Possession of a valid Driver’s License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver’s license and reflects driving record.

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

The salary range for this classification is: $ 4,691.00 – $ 6,683.00 monthly.

Major Duties

Under the general direction of the Interim Associate Director of the Office of Student Life, the Greek Life Coordinator is responsible for developing and supporting a healthy and engaging environment that promotes the positive development of students who affiliate with fraternities and sororities. Within this scope, this position is responsible for ensuring compliance with any CSU Chancellor’s Office Executive Orders or other regulations related to fraternity and sorority life trainings including, but not limited to anti-hazing and Title IX. The Greek Life Coordinator also provides advising support in relation to the student club/organization recognition and chartering process. In addition, the Greek Life Coordinator plays a large role in the event approval process for student organization events by reviewing all elements and making risk assessments using professional judgement. This position will create new workshops and programs designed to advance the university’s strategic mission. The Greek Life Coordinator will exercise professional judgement to provide advisement to students in day-to-day office operations and events management. This position will also assist with large-scale programs and annual events and serve on various university-wide committees. Assigned responsibilities require considerable planning, coordination, and organization.

Qualifications

Required Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.

Required Experience: The equivalent of three (3) years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required. A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

Required Knowledge,Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior. General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as general knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned; general knowledge of individual counseling techniques; general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned. Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and ethnically and racially diverse student environment. Knowledge of fraternity/sorority life structure, function, and values specifically culturally based fraternities and sororities and historically black Greek letter organizations

Knowledge of the national and regional governing structures of fraternities and sororities

Working knowledge of best practices and research around risk topics like hazing, alcohol and substance abuse, and sexual violence

Working knowledge of CSU Chancellor’s Office Executive Orders related to student activities or other regulations

Knowledge of student organization operation best practices

Skills in training and counseling student leaders as individuals and in groups, especially in conflict management and complex group dynamics

Ability to follow university protocol including interpretation and enforcement of university policies and regulations

Ability to de-escalate conflict with individuals and groups

Ability to identify and implement high impact practices

Preferred Qualifications:
Greek student advising experience

Experience with accreditation programs designed to enhance fraternity/sorority life and collect relevant data highlighting fraternities and sororities.

Able to create assessment/evaluation measures aligned to division and department data collection goals related to fraternity/sorority life.

Required Certification: Valid Driver’s License

Responsibilities

50% – Fraternity & Sorority Management & Development

Maintains system organization of student organization recognition documents and records including roster management, Constitution & Bylaws, and annual agreement forms.

Ensures all student organization Constitution & Bylaw documents are in compliance with all CSU Chancellor’s Office Executive Orders related to Student Activities or other regulations. Uses best practices and data collected to inform the development of training and workshop programs to assist student organization leaders in operating their student organizations

Develops training, education, community building, and support of student organization leaders and advisors

Identifies relevant training topics for fraternity and sorority leaders related to safety, health and well-being within an engaging environment that promotes the positive development of the student.

Oversee the fraternity and sorority community operations. Communicates through phone and email with local chapter advisors, alumni members, regional and national officers regarding important matters

Responsible for ensuring proper completion of specific requirements for fraternity/sorority organization recognition to make sure all chapters have updated insurance documentation and rosters are accurate

Coordinates and facilitates compliance with training and workshop requirements for fraternities and sororities including, but not limited to anti-hazing training, healthy relationships, Title IX, etc.

Reviews the governing documents (Constitution &Bylaws) of fraternities and sororities on an annual basis

Oversees accreditation programs designed to enhance fraternity/sorority life and collect relevant data highlighting fraternities and sororities

Oversees, implements and supports the expansion of any interested new fraternities and sororities

Serves as a liaison to the Office of Community Standards in student concerns related to campus policy violations

Creates assessment/evaluation measures aligned to division and department data collection goals related to fraternity/sorority life. Communicates important and relevant needs and opportunities with student organization leaders and student organization advisor.

25% Student Organization Recognition & Development

Verifies enrollment requirements, GPA and support organizations with ensuring they complete the steps of the OSL recognition process. Supports the Greek student population with on-campus events and programming to ensure events are meeting time, place, and manner (TPM) expectations. Supports program with student leadership development, training, and transition as organizations adapt with new leadership.

10% Student Organization Events Management

Reviews student organization event requests (on-campus and virtually) which includes reviewing all event elements and details in compliance with student organization event submission policies including, but not limited, to advisor approval, guest speakers, attendance, event venue, fundraising/ticket sales, parking, risk and liability to the student organization and university, etc. Uses professional judgement in referring major student organization events (as defined by the TPM policy) to the appropriate administrators through an event planning meeting

Uses professional judgement in the implementation of the Time Place and Manner Policy as it relates to student organization events and activities

Assists the Director/Associate Director in providing event consultation for student organizations interested in hosting large-scale major events

10% Programming and office operations Collaborates with campus departments to create cross campus training/learning opportunities for students Supports Office of student life in campus wide event planning.

5% Other duties as assigned.
