Faculty – New Testament

Responsibilities

The Biblical and Theological Studies Field of Moody Bible Institute seeks to appoint a full-time junior or senior faculty member to its Chicago campus in preparation for the 2022-2023 academic year. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in New Testament theology and exegesis, excellent communication skills, involvement in academic research, eagerness to mentor students and perform faculty service, and enthusiasm for MBI’s mission and theological commitments.
Teaching responsibilities will consist of 12 hours per semester and lie mainly in the undergraduate school, although the ability to teach at the seminary level and/or in our online venues would be an asset. Primary undergraduate teaching needs include Greek grammar and syntax, hermeneutics, biblical introduction, biblical theology, biblical ethics, a required upper-division course on Paul’s Epistle to the Romans, as well as elective courses on various New Testament books and topics.
Essential Functions

  • Prepare syllabi and teach students in assigned courses.
  • Determine instructional outcomes appropriate to each course taught and assess student academic and/or skill achievement related to those outcomes. Such outcomes are to be consistent with departmental mission and objectives.
  • Be prompt in submission of grades, reports, and other required information.
  • Serve as academic advisor to assigned students
  • Assist the program head with the development and maintenance of program goals.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a program assessment plan.
  • Work with the program head and field chair to implement changes in program curriculum based upon assessment results.
  • Provide the field chair with professional goals and objectives for the annual performance review.
  • Attend designated chapels and events, eat meals with students in the Student Dining Room and engage in informal time with students as opportunity permits, in order to further the sense of community, shared values and experiences.
  • Be engaged in professional development, scholarship, and research appropriate to primary discipline and in the scholarship of teaching.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Bible with emphasis in the New Testament, with undergraduate teaching experience
  • The candidate must demonstrate a personal commitment to the Christian faith and a desire to integrate faith into all aspects of teaching.
  • Desire to grow in their spiritual lives and develop as mentors of students
  • Respect and appreciation for the diversity and contribution of all faculty
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Personal integrity, passion, and perseverance
  • Teaching ability and a proven commitment to educating students
  • Able to work in the US legally without sponsorship

Preferred Requirements

  • PhD in New Testament/Early Church, D.Min or similar terminal level of degree in field

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Hours: Vary Monday-Friday
Minimal travel is expected for this position.
