Responsibilities
The University of Akron, Department of Student Life seeks candidates for the position of Coordinator, Fraternity and Sorority Life. The Coordinator serves as an advisor and program coordinator for the Fraternity and Sorority community to provide students with a quality, challenging and educational experience and reports to the Assistant Director, Fraternity and Sorority Life.
Essential Functions include: serving as the primary advisor to one or more governing councils (Panhellenic, National Pan-Hellenic and Interfraternity Councils) and assisting in advising the Greek Honor Societies (Gamma Sigma Alpha, Order of Omega and Rho Lambda); serving as a liaison to specific chapters by regularly meeting with chapter leaders and providing them with resources; communicating with volunteer advisors and inter/national headquarters staff; establishing relationships with other departments that will enhance service, student programs and co-curricular education for students; and serving on University committees and representing the Office as needed.
The Coordinator will also plan and oversee annual retreats and on-going training opportunities for students; assist students in the planning of Recruitment, Greek Week, Songfest and other fraternity and sorority life events; oversee programming from the Office and councils through advising and event management; supervise Fraternity and Sorority Life student staff; manage related accounts by monitoring and maintaining budgets; assist with record keeping, development of policies and procedures, and creation of reports for the fraternity and sorority community; assist with maintaining and updating the Student Organization Database, Office website, and other social media sites; develop and implement marketing strategies for fraternity and sorority life by creating comprehensive marketing plans; work with the Student Life Marketing Area to create marketing pieces; develop an ongoing assessment program to monitor satisfaction and learning as a result of FSL programs and services; and assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
A relevant bachelors degree; minimum of one year experience with Fraternity and Sorority life programs, advising and/or employment with a national fraternity or sorority (2 years of Graduate Assistant experience will be considered as one year of professional experience); an articulate understanding of the mission, culture, climate and environment of a metropolitan university; prior experience working with students of diverse educational, racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds; excellent written and oral communications skills, organization and computer literacy; and demonstrated leadership ability.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in higher education administration or closely related area.
