Every transaction has tax implications, whether its an acquisition, disposal, refinancing, restructuring or initial public offering. As one of EYs transaction tax professionals – part of the leading team in TAX Services in Greece – the Greek EY ΤΑΧ team was named “Greece Tax Firm of the Year” in the International Tax Review (ITR) European Tax Awards 2020 – youll help clients understand these implications, mitigating transaction risk, enhancing opportunity and providing crucial negotiation insights.

The opportunity

As a Transaction Tax Senior Manager, youll join an integrated global network of talented consultants working in a dynamic, fast-moving and commercially-driven environment. Youll actively establish, maintain and strengthen internal and external relationships and identify and escalate opportunities for EY. Youll make a technical and operational contribution to projects and engagements supervising and reviewing the work of more junior team members and confirm its of a high standard that complies with our Quality & Risk Management policies. Youll draw on your knowledge and experience to help clients understand and address the tax implications of the transactions that are strategically important to them – acquisitions, disposals, refinancings, restructurings or initial public offerings – and youll be actively involved in the technical development and delivery of ideas to help clients mitigate transaction risk, enhance opportunity and negotiate effectively.

Your key responsibilities

  • Participate in Transaction Tax engagements

  • Work effectively as a member of a worldwide network of professional consultants, sharing responsibility, providing support, maintaining communication and updating senior team members on progress

  • Collaborate with a team of Transaction Tax professionals to combine diverse cross-border transaction experience with local tax knowledge across a broad spectrum of industries

  • Participate and assist in preparing for meetings essential to the transaction process, e.g., meetings with the management teams of the buyer, seller or target or with their other advisors and providers of finance

  • Manage the preparation of reports and schedules that will be delivered to clients and other parties

  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with client personnel

  • Assist in managing engagement economics by organizing staffing, tracking fees and communicating issues to project leaders

  • Participate in business development initiatives

  • Build strong internal relationships within the Transaction Tax practice and across other service lines

  • Help people to develop through the effective supervision, coaching and mentoring of staff

  • Conduct performance reviews and contribute to performance feedback for staff

  • Contribute to people initiatives, including recruiting, retaining and training Transaction Tax professionals

  • Maintain an educational program to develop your technical and personal skills

  • Understand and follow workplace policies and procedures

Skills and attributes for success

  • Manage and coordinate tax due diligence and tax advisory engagements

  • Develop budgets, determine resource requirements, and direct / monitor engagements

  • Maintain continuous interaction with clients, manage expectations and ensure exceptional client service

  • Identifying and quantifying any tax risks associated with the target the clients are looking to acquire.

  • Identifying post acquisition tax demands by having a deep understanding of relevant legislation;

  • Strong managerial, organizational, project management and analytical skills.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • At least 9 years of relevant working experience

  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, TAX or other relevant field

  • Excellent supervisory, analytical, organizational, and leadership ability

  • Proven ability of managing complex and sizable assignments

  • A commitment to learning in a tax technology environment

  • Substantial MS office knowledge

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Greek and English

  • Excellent communication and prioritization skills

  • Results-oriented approach with keen attention to high quality, details and accuracy

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Working experience in a Big4 firm

  • Certification relevant to the area of specialization
