The Assistant Director for Student Leadership Development helps to cultivate a culture of leadership amongst the student community at Bryant through the support and development of a diverse portfolio of leadership and programming opportunities that serve the social and developmental needs and goals of Bryant’s students. In the area of leadership development, this position will foster student development opportunities that provide exposure to leadership skill sets, ideas and examples. In the area of programming, the Assistant Director will support and implement events for the department while also advising a selection of student leaders and organizations in their efforts. The Assistant Director for Student Leadership works to support immersive experiences that give students the chance to apply their skills, network with diverse audiences, and experience real-world leadership challenges. This position involves some night and weekend work throughout each semester.
Principal Accountabilities
1. Plan a comprehensive annual schedule of student leadership workshops, trainings and lectures that meet the needs of Bryant’s students and connect into other offerings and programmatic needs of the department.
2. Support and, in some cases, directly implement departmentally driven nighttime and weekend program offerings for the campus.
3. Advise student organizations, like Programming Board committees, in their efforts to implement and learn from event and program planning/management.
4. Support/create large-scale student leadership events, including the Leadership Summit.
5. In conjunction with the CSLI’s database of student competencies, and industry best practices/theories, work to systemize leadership development through things like incentives, certifications, and badges.
6. Assist in the implementation of a multi-day early-arrival program for incoming first-year students that focuses on leadership development and community engagement.
7. Serve on the staff advisement team for Student Government with a focus on supporting elections and their goals of improving internal member development and external student body outreach/engagement.
8. May advise a portfolio of student organizations or Fraternity/Sorority chapters.
9. Play a supporting role in the Greek Community by advising honors societies and supporting Greek-wide leadership and philanthropic endeavors.
10. Oversee the annual Leadership Awards and support recognition efforts such as involvement on committees for award selection.
11. Develop and oversee a student team of peer leadership advocates that support the outward extension of leadership opportunities on campus by facilitating training, advising teams or individuals on a project, and working with the administration to identify needs.
12. Create and manage a set of revenue generating student leadership development offerings on campus. This may include the development of outdoor or props based leadership and team development opportunities that serve students, such as a low-ropes course.
13. Collaborate with areas (such as community engagement, student organizations, Greek life, academic affairs, etc.) to implement an integrated view of leadership development that ensures connected strategies and programming that serves a variety of student needs and communities on campus.
14. Support the oversight of CSLI policies, staff general CSLI events as needed and execute other departmental duties as needed.
15. Depending on the office structure, may involve oversite of a professional staff member.
16. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Best served by a person with:
- Master’s degree in student personnel or related field.
- 3-5 years of professional, post-graduate experience in student personnel or related field.
- Strong knowledge of student leadership development theories, practices, program design, and student advisement.
- Ability to design and facilitate successful educational and social programs and to hire presenters/vendors when needed.
- Experience with event planning, program design, and campus activities.
- Experience supervising professional staff is ideal but not required.

- Expertise in marketing and communication strategies to promote educational offerings.
