The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is seeking a dynamic, student-centered professional for the position of Assistant Director. Reporting to the Associate Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life, this position is directly responsible for advising one or more student governing councils ( Interfraternity Council , Multicultural Greek Council , National Pan-Hellenic Council , Penn State Pan-Hellenic Council) or community-wide programs (Greeks Care, Greek Week, Greek Sing, Order of Omega, etc.) and coaching a portfolio of chapters across the four governing councils within a community comprised of over 70 recognized fraternities and sororities and 6,000 affiliated students. The Assistant Director advises undergraduate chapter leaders while also maintaining communication with advisors, alumni, housing corporations, and inter/national organizations. They assist the office in facilitating educational programs on leadership, member development, and health and safety, among other topics. This position collaborates with University departments in providing resources to the fraternity and sorority community and may supervise graduate or undergraduate student workers.
Typically requires a Master’s degree or higher and 2+ years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A degree in higher education or student development is preferred. Experience creating a welcoming environment for diverse student populations and facilitating community development programming and initiatives is also preferred. Candidates must have strong knowledge of fraternity and sorority recruitment/intake, new member education, health and safety, educational programming and evaluation, and alumni engagement, as well as familiarity with specific trends and issues affecting fraternity and sorority communities. The successful candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, allowing them to work collaboratively with internal and external constituents to enhance the mission and vision of the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. Must be willing to work frequent nights and weekends as required.
