Assistant Director of Student Activities & Greek Life

Gettysburg College, in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is seeking a qualified professional for the position of Assistant Director of Student Activities & Greek Life. Gettysburg College is an undergraduate liberal arts and sciences college, which enrolls approximately 2,600 primarily residential students. The College is seeking a dynamic and innovative individual who has a strong administrative, collaborative, and student-focused skill set to serve in this position.

This 12-month position is responsible for supporting the structure, direction, services, and programs of the Office of Student Activities & Greek Life within the Division of College Life. Specifically, the person in this position will support students in their personal development and advise them on matters related to the operations and success of their student organizations. It is an expectation that all staff be committed to using best practices as well as emerging approaches to continuously improve the student experience. This position reports directly to the Director of Student Activities & Greek Life.

The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Director of Student Activities & Greek Life will be:

  • Act in accordance with the College’s strategic plan, the Board of Trustees Guiding Principles, and the College’s Inclusion Action Plan.
  • Create curriculum and facilitate workshops for programs and retreats including Student Organization Training, the Greek Leaders Retreat, the Greek Emerging Leaders program, and the Student Leadership Summit.
  • Serve as the primary advisor to the Panhellenic Council and provide support to the elected officers.
  • Work with chapter leadership, alumnae advisors, and headquarters partners to facilitate the Panhellenic formal recruitment process.
  • Provide oversight for the student organization registration process and Activities Fair.
  • Oversee the curriculum and logistics for the Fraternity & Sorority Core New Member Education program.
  • Oversee the Fraternity & Sorority Annual Evaluation process.
  • Advise the student organizations in 2-4 organizational categories
  • Advise 5-6 fraternities and sororities and collaborate with their undergraduate and alumni leadership on organizational management and strategic planning.
  • Supervise student staff including serving as the direct supervisor for the Panhellenic Heads of Recruitment, the Fraternity & Sorority Leadership & Education Coordinator, and the Spectrum Yearbook Editor.
  • Serve as the primary advisor for the Junior Class Officers and provide support in the areas of programming, organizational operations, and community initiatives.
  • Support student social programming by supervising some late-night events and large campus-wide programming efforts throughout the academic year
  • Participate in divisional programs and broader campus community initiatives with faculty, staff, alumni, and students to provide a high-quality student experience

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for the position are:

  • A Master’s degree in College Student Personnel; Higher Education Administration; or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in campus activities and/or fraternity and sorority affairs
  • The ability to work collaboratively with campus partners to foster student success
  • The ability to incorporate student development as a central focus in working with students and campus partners
  • The ability to develop engaging and effective curriculums focused based on learning outcomes
  • The ability to work with campus partners to promote an inclusive campus community where underrepresented students will thrive
  • The ability to adapt to changing needs of students and the institution
  • Availability to work weekends and evenings

Preferred experiences for the position are:

  • Experience with the Panhellenic formal recruitment process
  • Experience developing curriculum and facilitating workshops
  • Previous experience in working in a liberal arts context is preferred; the ability to translate past work to a liberal arts context is required
