The Assistant Director of Student Leadership and Involvement is primarily responsible for advising, event planning, and program management within the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement. He/she is expected to be a role model, mentor, facilitator, leader, and an essential person in the effective process of student life. This position reports to the Director of Student Leadership and Involvement within the Department of Student Development and Support, which is a part of the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Promote holistic student development through theory-based advising, education, and experiential learning opportunities within a Christian context
Advise, plan events, and manage programs within the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement
Supervise work-study student assistants
Manage Presence (Bulldog Central) student organization database, calendar, event and marketing approval process and provide user support
Oversee student organization programs, including but not limited to workshops, trainings, fair, and chair awards selection process and ceremony
Assist in coordinating and attend Student Government Association training
Work with the Multicultural Affairs Committee (MAC) of the Student Government Association to provide diversity peer education for student organizations
Advise the Student Government Association Class Officers and Freshman Forum and serve as the secondary advisor for the Multicultural Affairs Committee, Vice President for Events, and Chaplain
Attend SGA events for areas of primary advising and serve as back-up for areas advised by the Director
Provide oversight of appropriate budgets including the SGA budgets for Class Officers, Freshman Forum, MAC, and Chaplain
Plan, develop, and implement programs, services, activities, and opportunities for minority students designed to strengthen and expand leadership competencies, Christian faith and community involvement
Manage Leadership Certificate Program through cadres
Manage marketing of Student Leadership and Involvement programming (including website, social media, and print materials)
Assist with the planning and implementation of the University Awards process
Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community partners to provide meaningful opportunities for leadership development, including but not limited to the Office of Diversity and Intercultural Initiatives, the Office of Spiritual Life, the Mann Center for Leadership & Ethics, and Athletics
Coordinate and produce the Campus Connection, the weekly newsletter highlighting campus life events and programming
Manage Leadership Lunch Series, a monthly faith-based lecture series for students
Manage the Student Leader Spotlight program, which highlights outstanding student leaders on campus
Assist with student leadership programming assessment
Represent the Office of Student Leadership and Involvement at recruiting events and new student orientation
Provide consulting services to individuals, student groups, and classes, as requested
Serve on university committees, as assigned
Other duties, as assigned
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree
3-5 years of experience in student affairs, activities, orientation, recruitment and admissions, Greek life, student leadership, student government, campus recreation, or community service
Experience with the supervision of employees or students, as well as budget oversight and planning
A commitment to and an understanding of a liberal arts education and the ability to embrace and promote the Christian mission of the University
An understanding and respect for similarities and differences of people in the institutional environment; a commitment to including diverse perspectives in programming and other initiatives
Experience with event planning and advising, preferably within a college or university environment
A commitment to shaping a campus environment for leadership and mentorship through education of individual students as well as organizations
Outstanding organization, problem-solving, and oral/written communication skills
An understanding of student development theory and assessment, risk management practices and procedures, and comprehensive approach to student life
Ability to work some evening and weekend hours as well as the ability to coordinate out-of-town leadership programs
A collaborative leadership style and an interest in working with students
Valid driver’s license and ability to transport students via 15-passenger van
Ability to lift 20 pounds and maneuver rugged terrain during outdoor leadership/service opportunities
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, educational leadership, or a related field
Proficient in Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar design programs
Proficient in Presence organizational management platform
Training and experience in leadership development training
Training and experience in diversity, equity and inclusion programming
