Overview
The Assistant Director of UCARE is responsible for coordinating all aspects of UCARE—the Ursinus Center for Advocacy, Responsibility, and Engagement. Such responsibilities include managing relations with community partners, guiding a team of students to arrange and coordinate service opportunities, and recruiting students to participate in UCARE initiatives. The Assistant Director is also expected to assist in managing the Ursinus Bonner Leader Program as its program coordinator. The Bonner Leader Program requires significant staffing to meet its programming requirements. The Assistant Director manages all aspects of the Scholars in Service Program, including training, recruitment, and advising.
Responsibilities
UCARE Responsibilities:
Develop and coordinate service and civic engagement opportunities for the campus community
Create avenues to increase engagement of student body with community outreach activities
Coordinate large-scale community events including Service Day for First Year Orientation, MLK Day of Service and Semi-Annual Community Weeks
Continue to enhance infrastructure for sustained campus community partnerships
Develop new partnerships with local non-profits
Conduct site visits and needs assessment of community partners
Prepares semester reports for stakeholders regarding community service initiatives supported by the College
Assist in consulting with faculty on civic engagement pedagogy and curriculum development
Meet with community agencies to discuss research needs and develop research questions
Update the UCARE website with service opportunities and events
Supervise, select and train student office assistants and program interns
Help coordinate service opportunities for Greek organizations, Resident Advisors and their halls, athletic teams and student clubs
Scholars in Service Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage all aspects of the Scholars in Service Program
Advise Scholars to ensure that their volunteer work becomes a part of their co-curricular education and leadership development
Facilitate trainings and teach the bi-weekly class for Scholars
Be the main point person with Admissions to recruit incoming Scholars
Coordinates a fall orientation for incoming and current Scholars
Bonner Coordinator Responsibilities:
Assist in coordinating the Bonner Leader Program through program development and a developmental student leadership theory
Assist with organization, coordination, and participation in annual Bonner Cornerstone Activities (New Bonner Orientation, weeklong First-Year Service Trip, and Senior Presentations)
Advise Bonners on methods to link their civic engagement experience with their academic work
Act as the Teaching Assistant in class with a focus on social justice, civic engagement, community development, international perspective, spiritual exploration and diversity
Manage student service hours through an hour log system
Assist in the planning and leading of orientation, retreats, developmental training and enrichment opportunities for all Bonner students
Assist in organizing international service trip for Bonner Leader Program
Work with Admissions and the Director to recruit and select incoming Bonner students
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree required (Master’s Degree preferred)
2-3 years’ experience in program management
Excellent Interpersonal and Communication Skills
Prior Leadership Experience in Service/Civic Engagement Activities
A Deep Understanding and Appreciation for the Mission of a Liberal Arts Education
