Student Services invites applications for a 12-month, full-time, Coordinator of Sorority/Fraternity Life and Leadership. The Coordinator of Sorority/Fraternity Life reports to the Assistant Dean of Students and works with colleagues and campus stakeholders in the enhancement of co-curricular life at the University of South Dakota. The Coordinator is responsible for implementing and constantly upgrading institution leadership programs. The Coordinator has primary responsibility for developing, leading and maintaining advising and support services for affiliated fraternities and sororities and their associated constituency groups. These groups include local alumni advisory groups/boards, Inter/national headquarters, various City of Vermillion agencies, House Directors /live-in advisors and parents and families.
Responsibilities to Fraternity and Sorority Life:
- Provide advising and leadership development programs for a comprehensive Sorority & Fraternity Life community (Individual Chapters, Volunteer Advisor, Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, Chapter Presidents, and Fraternity Graduate Assistant) in organizational leadership, program development, wellness programs, risk management, scholarship, service, membership recruitment and development, and assessment effectiveness.
- Interpret and disseminate a wide array of university policies and procedures to student leaders, council executive board members, chapter advisors, alumni, national officers, and parents.
- Develop resources and services that support exploration of leadership development, risk management, peer and group accountability, values congruence, health and wellness, and new member education programs.
- Educate student groups and leaders on risk management issues including hazing, alcohol use, drugs, integrity, civility, and bystander behavior. As to encourage behavior that supports the University standards and mission statement.
- Encourage and promote the development of programs regarding awareness of social issues, including diversity and inclusivity, gender issues, multiculturalism, homophobia, health issues such as alcohol and drug abuse, violence, eating disorders/nutrition, etc.
- Develop and implement innovative and engaging curriculum for leadership training programs and services for members of fraternities and sororities, chapter presidents, chapter officers, chapter advisors and corporation board officers.
- Engage in organizational development plans by assisting individual students and their groups in goal-setting, planning and continually emphasizing improvement.
- Work with Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council executive officers to plan, implement and evaluate the new member education program each semester.
- Advise Order of Omega honor society, the Greek Awards Banquet and Greek Week.
- Coordinate the online submissions, tracking and assessment of the chapters for the Endorsement Program, and community year-end reports.
- Manage chapter rosters.
- Assist in supervision of Fraternity Graduate Assistants.
Responsibilities to Leadership Programming:
- Co- Coordinate, schedule and implement the Annual President’s Celebration of University Leadership Awards program.
- Co – Coordinate, schedule and implement the Emerging Leaders Institute, Leadership Seminar Series, Multicultural Leadership Institute and President’s Senior Leadership Institute.
- Develop and evaluate programs designed to expand student leadership opportunities such as workshops, conferences, and speakers.
- Collaborates with academic faculty, Division of Student Services, and other university and community members to implement and constantly upgrade institution leadership programs.
- Initiate self-assessment tool processes that capture success and growth of students in the leadership programs.
- Develop best practices for success in leadership programming.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree is required, a combination of education and experience may be considered. A successful candidate should have demonstrated ability to foster relationships and a successful track record of developing and implementing developmental programs. The successful candidate will have team building skills, demonstrated leadership abilities, and well-developed communication skills.
Other Considerations: Must be an experienced and energetic individual with a demonstrated understanding of student development theory and the issues facing students today. Must be an innovative thinker with a vision for providing high-quality services that educate and empower students.
