JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Counselor’s primary function is to provide services to address student needs for personal, social, academic and professional development. Provide services through individual counseling, group counseling, outreach programming and consultation. Additionally the Counselor assists the Director in the selection, supervision and development of interns. The Counselor also acts as a consultant for faculty, staff and parents who have concerns about students and to help to educate the campus community about student development needs and issues.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities:
Counseling Students: Provide short-term counseling to WPI students to address student concerns and make referrals to local resources where appropriate. Provide mandated counseling for students referred judicially. Organize market and lead group counseling for WPI students where appropriate. Provide crisis counseling as needed.
Outreach Programming: Design, market and present outreach programming for student constituencies on topics related to personal and professional development. Work in coordination with other offices on campus to provide programming in key areas including RA and CA development, student leadership development, alcohol education and in support of Greek life.
Training and Development: Assist in the development and marketing of the SDCC intern training program. Assist in the selection, training and ongoing support of interns. Design and implement internal staff development seminars. Provide clinical consultation to other professional staff within the SDCC. Develop and maintain the internal clinical resource library.
Clinical Consultation: Consult with faculty, staff, students, and parents about concerns with WPI students and follow up as necessary. Participate in monthly Worcester Consortium of Counselors meetings. Cultivate and maintain relationships with (and maintain a file of) key clinical resources in the area to provide for effective referrals.
Student Affairs and Campus Life: Participate in division of Student Affairs and Campus Life meetings and activities. Serve on division or campus wide committees as appropriate.
Connect with Campus Community: Establish and maintain a constituency of faculty and staff on campus. Participate in on campus programming (faculty/staff/student Training) to increase visibility of SDCC. Participate in major events organized by other offices on campus as appropriate.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Master’s degree in counselor education, counseling psychology, social work, higher education counseling or clinical psychology required.
License eligible as a mental health counselor, psychologist or Social Worker in the State of Massachusetts.
Experience working in a college counseling environment preferred.
Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with a diverse population of students in individual, group and programmatic settings.
Willing and able to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
