HERFF JONES, Die Clerk – Indianapolis, IN
Your Opportunity:
The Herff Jones Production team is looking for a Die Clerk to join our team in Indianapolis, IN.
This is a Regular Fulltime position with benefit eligibility including, medical, dental, vision, life, 401(k), paid time off, and additional voluntary benefits.
Shift: Standard shift is 7:00am – 3:45pm, Monday through Friday.
Hours fluctuate to ten- and twelve-hour days if needed during peak season including Saturdays and Sundays if necessary due to customer demand. Seasons vary between January through end of May.
Here’s How You’ll Make an Impact:
As a member of our production team, you will work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment supporting the printing and distribution of high school and college announcements, diplomas and diploma covers to help our customers celebrate some of their greatest achievements. As a Die Clerk, you are responsible for the cataloging and inventory of production dies, communicating die status, and the distribution of dies to the production floor. The Die Clerk works with Customer Service, the Art Team, the Die Room, and Production to maintain a good working environment and smooth workflow. You will identify die issues and communicate them to the appropriate individuals for immediate resolution. You will learn to execute exception art and die workflows to assist in solving issues. A strong focus on quality, detail, and communication will be key to operating successfully in the role.
What We Want You to Accomplish:
First 30 Days:
Learn how to electronically check dies into and out of the die log using Excel; be able to pull and file actual dies in their correct physical locations in the die room.
Understand and learn how to solve some of the common workflow problems encountered with dies.
Understand the manufacturing processes for which these dies are used.
First 90 days:
Learn how to check a die for errors, damage, or other issues; learn what to do when such problems are encountered.
Learn the basics of the job-tracking software used by the Company, and specifically the forms used by the die room.
Learn how to track jobs through the system, and what to do when issues arise.
First 120 Days:
Successfully quality-check dies without supervision.
Demonstrate ease of use with work tickets and job tracking forms.
Gain a full understanding of the Company’s physical and electronic processes and workflows, which will help in identifying problems before they happen.
What You’ll Be Doing On A Daily Basis:
Check in and check out dies to the production floor and/or other departments based on instructions in work tickets.
Pull dies and validate that the image is correct, and the die set is complete and fit for production.
Validate and provide quality assurance during check-in after each die is used for production.
Keep the die room clean and organized.
Communicate with other departments via computer, by using established forms, or on foot to track dies/jobs and find exception resolutions.
Track daily workload and issues with dies, either manually, or with the help of specialized software.
Follow established procedures, suggesting improvements where streamlining is possible.
Assisting other departments as needed on projects, assignments, and tasks.
What You’ll Bring to the Table:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience in a manufacturing facility required, paper industry a plus.
Practical experience with computers and Excel.
Proficient at basic addition and subtraction.
Understanding of offset lithography methods a plus
Effective communication (listening, written, and verbal) across all levels of an organization is essential.
Physical Requirements:
Daily activity includes but is not limited to:
lifting, carrying, sitting, grasping, reaching, standing, kneeling, walking, bending, twisting.
Reading, communication, simple math.
Use of a step ladder to retrieve customer files as needed.
Being able to sit for long periods of time working at a computer.
Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
