Role Overview
North Carolina Hillel seeks a dynamic, creative, and outgoing self-starter with proven organizational skills and strong follow-through to help us inspire Jewish students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (“Carolina”). Carolina attracts the best and brightest students and is known for its exceptional blend of rigorous academics, spirited campus community and thoughtful, engaged student body. The Director of Student Engagement will join the team of the #1 Most Impactful Hillel (according to Hillel International’s 2016 survey of 10,000+ students).
As the Director of Student Engagement, you will work in partnership with colleagues to create and implement a comprehensive engagement strategy to reach the estimated 1,000 Jewish students on campus. After a challenging year of quarantine and limited social gatherings, you will think strategically about making connections with Jewish students by way of intentional conversations and creative experiences, and inspire staff and student leaders to think about who is “not in the room.” Over 50% of students on campus next year will never have had a conventional Hillel experience.
The Director of Student Engagement will need to innovate and think creatively about the next chapter at UNC Hillel. They will be responsible for strategizing incoming student engagement and welcoming prospective students to campus as they consider applying.

What You’ll Do
Develop one-on-one relationships with Jewish students by meeting them where they live, work and/or study, utilizing creative methods to reach and connect them to Jewish life
Mentor student leaders in their Jewish and leadership growth through one-on-one meetings and group trainings, in order to cultivate a Jewish community that is caring, diverse, welcoming, and actively inclusive
Oversee programs and engagement activities in partnership with colleagues and student leaders
Oversee the collection and analysis of student engagement data and use data to inform our engagement strategy, ensure timely and ongoing relationship building, andf foster a culture of accountability
Identify the needs of underserved students and develop strategies to meet those needs
Develop key relationships with campus professionals and student organizational partners
On a day to day basis you will
Plan student executive board leadership development training.
Meet a student over coffee to learn more about their Jewish identity and journey.
Work with student leaders to co-create exciting programming based on student interests.
Analyze student engagement data to customize student communication strategies.
Collaborate with students and other Hillel staff to help develop partnerships with other campus organizations.
What You’ve Accomplished
2-4 years professional experience in Jewish, experiential, or higher education
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree is a plus
Proven success in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs, and building strategic partnerships with young adults

Strong written and verbal skills, effective at communicating with a variety of stakeholders including students, parents, alumnae/i, and university partners
What You’ll Receive
Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $50,000 – $55,000, depending on experience.
