POSITION: DIRECTOR OF STUDENT LEADERSHIP AND ENGAGEMENT

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Director of Student Leadership and Engagement is responsible for creating, implementing and assessing a robust, co-curricular student experience, via campus activities and events and community engagement, while also providing opportunities for students to develop and hone their personal/professional, organizational and leadership development skills. More specifically, the individual selected for this role will provide managerial and administrative oversight for the University’s Student Government Association (SGA), Greek Life Organizations (National Pan-Hellenic Council and Multicultural Fraternity and Sorority), and Mid-Day/Evening/Weekend Programming. This individual will supervise the Student Leadership and Engagement Coordinator, as well as several student and Work Study employees. The Director of Student Leadership and Engagement provides administrative leadership for “big impact” programming (i.e., Welcome Week, Student Organization and Community Fair, Homecoming, Cultural Awareness Months/Diversity and Inclusion, CIAA Week, Senior Week), and assists with the planning. Prepares and manages at least three major area budgets and expenses, as well as service agreements and contracts for co-curricular performances, lecturers, and entertainers. Supports divisional efforts in working with Institutional Advancement to investigate and research new streams of revenue and sponsorship opportunities to support students’ activities and events. Assumes the lead on drafting, writing and submitting protocols, procedures, training manuals and handbooks that ensure that student and university-recognized organizations and advisors are aware of institutional and unit rules, regulations and policies. Hosts annual student organization and advisor trainings including, but not limited to, back-to-school, organizational goal setting and budget planning, program planning and anti-Hazing trainings. Utilizes technology, social media and electronic databases and portals (i.e., Canvas, Engage) to disseminate pertinent information to student organizations, advisors and the university-at-large. Devises and conducts ongoing assessments and evaluations of office-related programming and contributes to monthly unit and university-wide reports relating to accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Assist with planning, budgeting and evaluation of responsible units. Facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of and of respect for diverse, multicultural and inclusive bodies of students, faculty and staff. Participates in professional organizations/conferences. Attends and conduct meetings and serving on university/community committees, etc. as appointed and/or requested.

Qualifications: A master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel Services or a related field and three or more years of experience in overseeing or managing student activities, Student Government, Greek Life, student programming development, leadership development, etc. Strong grasp of student identity development theory, knowledge of student organization management and local/regional/national/federal policies, procedures and laws. Ability to work with diverse student populations, faculty, staff and community members. Experience with Microsoft Office applications, graphic design and social media platforms. Must be organized, efficient and possess a strong attention to detail, while remaining nimble and flexible when responding to the co-curricular needs of students and student organizations. Have the capacity to maintain a high level of confidentiality when dealing with specific student and student organization issues/crises; and, working with other divisional or university areas to resolve them (i.e., Dean of Students/Title IX Coordinator, Student Conduct Officer, Campus Police).
