Elementary School Job Description

Calvary Christian School is looking for an enthusiastic, loving, and passionate elementary teacher to foster and facilitate the intellectual, physical, spiritual, and social development of the children we serve. The teacher will plan, implement, teach, and assess students progress, working with families in a nurturing and loving educational environment. Our hope is that the teacher will lead with godliness, creativity, and a desire to foster a Christian framework for the students.

Our academic pedagogy is best understood in the Greek word paideia, which is translated training. Paideia is a full-orbed instruction that encompasses all aspects of life.

Position Overview:
A Calvary Christian School teacher will educate students within a Christian context, starting with the basic core curricular subjects (math, language arts, history, science, and Spanish), following a paideia (whole child) education model, the teacher will set the tone of the children’s learning experience.

Teachers create lesson plans and teach the plans to the entire class, individually to students or in small groups, track student progress and present the information to parents, create tests, create and reinforce classroom rules, work with school administration prepare students for tests, and manage students outside the classroom, such as in school hallways, detention, school programs, and other responsibilities asked of the administration.

Responsibilities in include, but not limited to:
Communication Skills: Teachers must be able to speak clearly to students, other teachers, parents and administration officials.

Instruction Skills: Teachers will have to explain new ideas and unfamiliar concepts with authority and in a clear and concise way so that students can understand. They must work to keep the students’ attention.

Writing Skills: Teachers write progress reports, notes home, and in the case of postsecondary teachers, publish research. Writing skills are critical.

Patience: Students will have different backgrounds and abilities. Patience will help teachers deal with students who act out or have trouble following the material.

Creativity: Teachers have to find ways to involve students into their lessons. Additionally, teachers may have to work with different learning styles to get the most out of each student.

People Skills: Engaging parents and creating healthy relationships with students and faculty will help create a quality learning environment.

Academic Duties

Teachers teach their students basic core academic skills according the specific grade level he/she is assigned, reading, writing, science, and math. In addition to these tasks, the teacher will assist the school with any academic-related endeavors (fieldtrips, rally, hall duty, etc.), as called upon.

Physical

Calvary Christian School teachers will work to ensure age-appropriate physical activities are implemented for the student’s growth and heath. These would include physical education and basic health.

Spiritual

Calvary Christian School teachers will help facilitate and implement a well-rounded Biblical education within the core curriculum, age appropriate and suitable for the various learning styles of the student. These may include Bible memorization, chapel, and class prayers.

Social Duties

Calvary Christian School teachers will help build a firm foundation for future social engagement. Students’ opinions and perceptions of school are shaped by what they experience during their first years of school. Calvary Christian School teachers will help shape the day-to-day social sensibilities of the student, including proper behavior, social interaction, politeness, love, and respect, in order to mold students who are well adjusted and eager to learn.

Education:

  • BA with teacher certification (public or private certification)
  • Preferably 1-2 teaching experience
