Role Overview

Make your mark on Jewish life by joining IU Hillel as the Greek Life Coordinator. Indiana University boasts a tremendous number of students participating in Greek life consisting of approximately 1,200 Jewish students, 4 Jewish fraternities, and 2 Jewish sororities. In this role you will build hundreds of student relationships, work collaboratively and independently to plan innovative and meaningful Jewish programs, and develop the future generation of Jewish leaders. In addition to working with Greek Jewish students, this position will be a staff lead on some of our student groups and clubs that engage upperclassmen. The Greek Life coordinator will be self-motivated, energetic, and possess a passion for building relationships with students and peers.

What You’ll Do

General Staff Responsibilities

Maintain program attendance records for measurement and ongoing evaluation purposes.

Collaborate with the Communications and Social Media Director and Associate Director on the marketing components of applicable programs.

Participate as a member of the IU Hillel staff team in major programs, Shabbats, and holidays.

Represent the IU Hillel Foundation on campus with students, faculty and administration as appropriate, as well as with the wider community.

Recruit, organize, build a curriculum and teach students for Hillel’s X170 leadership courses.

It is expected for this role to be on the staff rotation for Shabbats and holidays. There is also the opportunity to staff trips such as leadership retreats, Alternative Spring Breaks, and Birthright Israel.

Engagement

Design and implement an engagement plan under the supervision of the Associate Director to strategically build a minimum of 180 relationships with students in Greek life who are uninvolved with IU Hillel.

Meet with students regularly on a one-on-one basis to identify future Jewish student leaders, empower and connect them to opportunities with IU Hillel.

Develop means of communication with students for the purposes of program recruitment and marketing of new engagement opportunities.

Train students with support of the Associate Director in use of outreach strategies to increase their effectiveness at communication and marketing of their programs.

Assist in developing key relationships with campus and student organizational partners. These one-on-one relationships help to ensure positive positioning of Hillel in the university landscape, as well as facilitate partners in the planning and actualization of programs and activities.

Program Leadership and Support

Manage, lead, and support the growth of the Greek Jewish Council Executive Board, President, and committees.

Recruit for immersion programs such as Jewish Learning Fellowship, Alternative Spring Break, and Birthright Israel.

Facilitate, lead, and partner with other Hillel staff to develop leadership workshops and Jewish learning for IU Hillel’s 2 credit IU course Seminar in Leadership Training: Jewish Emerging Leaders

Work with Greek students to implement and plan innovative, relevant, and engaging Jewish initiatives to bridge the gap between Hillel and Greek life.

Strengthen and support student leadership teams and student groups, including but not limited to:

Greek Jewish Council (GJC)

Sports Grille/Tailgating

Intramurals

Gin and Jews

Work collaboratively with the Associate Director and Development Staff to actively seek out and prepare grant proposals relevant to programs in your purview, including student government, for support within and outside of the University.

Develop in collaboration with Communications and Social Media Director an organizational communication plan to utilize multi-channel marketing, such as social media and in-person events, to build Hillel’s overall brand among students

What You’ll Bring to the Job

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree and 0-2 years of post college work experience.

Must have experience as a member of a large Greek community or organization

Excellent interpersonal skills and a willingness to put yourself in new situations and environments (e.g. dorms, fraternity or sorority houses, and on campus).

Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and unafraid to ask questions when working with others

A passion for creating and building Jewish community

Ability to work flexible hours to properly align with students’ schedules and get the job done

A strong work ethic, team-oriented approach and proven leadership skills

Sense of humor

Comfortability and fluency with Digital Marketing & Social Media branding is preferred but not required.

Supervision

Participate in weekly professional supervision with the Associate Director, weekly staff meetings, and programming staff meetings.

Participate in ongoing Jewish learning and growth with other staff members.

What You’ll Receive

Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $38,000 – $40,000.
