POSITION SUMMARY:
The live-in house director has two essential responsibilities: to manage day-to-day operations of the house, reporting to the International Headquarters, and to establish a sense of belonging for all chapter women based on a relationship of mutual respect and rapport. The house director manages the day-to-day operations of the house including (1) house administration; (2) member relationship and support; (3) facility security and safety; and (4) oversight and management of facility operations including (a) food service, (b) housekeeping, maintenance, and repairs.
The house director will ensure that the highest quality of service is provided in compliance with all chapter rules/bylaws as well as the National Housing Corporation, International Headquarters, and University policies to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for live-in members as well as members visiting the house and, as appropriate, guests and visitors. The house director lives at the chapter facility and must be present 7 days and 7 nights weekly except for agreed chapter and personal activities when the house is open, excluding school-year holiday breaks when the facility is closed.
KEY ROLES (ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES):
Preparing Chapters for Success
1. Create an environment that represents the purpose and mission of Delta Phi Epsilon
a. Direct and oversee the opening and closing of the chapter house each semester including, but not limited to, assuring that necessary arrangements are made for cleaning, utilities, and securing of necessary precautions to protect the house and its contents from seasonal threats, theft, and vandalism.
b. Purchase all food, supplies, and equipment necessary for the proper operation to the chapter house within the confines of the house management budget.
c. Arrange for the cleaning, repair, and maintenance of the physical properties of the chapter house, its furnishings, and equipment.
d. Arrange for the upkeep of the chapter house grounds.
e. Meet with the chapter officers and Leadership Team as requested.
Supporting, Engaging, and Creating Vision
1. Hire, train, and supervise all employees of the chapter house for all positions on employment as authorized by the housing department and NHC.
2. Assist in preparing annual house management budget.
3. Oversee and direct all operations of the kitchen.
Setting the Standard for Sisterhood
1. Provide sufficient leadership and authority, so as to provide a reasonable and stable environment of all residents.
2. Be aware of all requirements of the host college/university and fulfill such requirements. Attend and participate in campus meetings pertinent to house directors.
3. Carry out any and all other functions or duties as are necessary or which may be assigned by the International Governing Board of Delta Phi Epsilon, housing department, or the Housing Corporation Board.
4. Perform other duties as assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintains close daily contact with members of the growing housing team, in particular the coordinator of housing – operations. Works closely with the international headquarters staff, traveling leadership consultants, chapter women (both live in and live out), vendors, house staff and the Chief Operations Officer.
External: Maintains close contact and communication with on-campus professionals, housing and Greek life staff on their respective campus, as well as other house directors.
Skills/Knowledge Required:
High School Diploma or GED
Previous Supervisor experience; ability to lead a staff
Experience as a house director preferred
Strong understanding of Sorority programs, policies and procedures
Strong communication skills
Ability to motivate people
Strong Communication skills
Must be a self-starter and able to work independently and as a member of the team
Ability to partner, collaborate and effectively work directly with volunteers
Project and people management skills
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
Location varies. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
