Position Highlights
The Department of Religious Studies and Classics at the University of Arizona is accepting applications for Career Track Instructor in Classics. The Department is seeking candidates with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence. The successful candidate will teach General Education courses for a diverse undergraduate student population. Candidates prepared to teach undergraduate courses in classical mythology, ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, and Latin are especially welcome to apply. This is a full-time position with benefits.

Duties & Responsibilities
Teaching 4 courses per semester based on department needs.
1. Teaching at least two in-person sections of an introductory-level Classical mythology course for the University of Arizona’s General Education curriculum. Each section will count as a separate course in the instructor’s workload
2. Potentially teaching one introductory course on Greek and Roman civilizations
3. Teaching load will include at least one online or hybrid course offered during an accelerated session (10/14/2021 – 12/08/2021). Resources are available at the University to assist in developing an online or hybrid course before its launch in October 2021
Holding office hours
Preparing teaching materials independently and collaboratively
Attending meetings and/or events as requested
Actively recruiting Classics majors and minors
Actively recruiting students to departmental courses in Classical Greek and Latin
Contributing to departmental efforts to develop innovative approaches to enhancing student engagement and fostering diversity and inclusive excellence
Additional duties may be assigned
Minimum Qualifications
M.A. in Classics or closely related field in hand at time of application
Professional-level English
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in Classics or closely related field
Experience teaching Classics at the university level, especially Classical Mythology and other Classics courses typically offered for undergraduates
Experience with online teaching, and/or a willingness and ability to develop an online or hybrid course in line with University of Arizona online pedagogy standards (based on “Quality Matters”)
Teaching competency in Latin
