The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit, Science- and Technology-oriented Educational and Research Institution, based in Cyprus and governed by an acclaimed Board of Directors. The research agenda of the CyI is pursued at its five Research Centres, namely:
- The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC)
- The Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Centre (STARC)
- The Energy Environment Water Research Centre (EEWRC)
- The Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C)
- The Science and Technology Driven Policy and Innovation Research Centre (STeDI-RC)
Considerable cross-centre interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s scientific ethos.
The Cyprus Institute invites applications for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join the Institute’s STEDI-RC Centre on a full-time basis (100% FTE) for its premises at Athalassa Campus.
The successful candidate will support the environmental modelling requirements related to RAINFEST (Horizon) project and will assist in developing the capacity of organisations and pathways to combat climate change and biodiversity loss related to the GREEN TALENT (Horizon project).
Position Specific Responsibilities/activities:
- Technical and modeling support on LCA, Input-Output or associate models
- Contribute in conducting empirical data collection and analysis related to sustainable food systems.
- Assist in the assessment of the environmental impact of food supply chains.
- Contribute to system mapping and transformative change methodologies for sustainable practices.
- Provide support in GIS modeling and data visualization.
- Assist in stakeholder engagement by participating in meetings and workshops to help develop and implement sustainable supply networks.
- Support the development of policy recommendations and organizing materials for policy forums.
- Assist in preparing project reports, contributing to scientific publications.
- Actively participate in an interdisciplinary and international research team.
Position Specific Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree Environmental Sciences, Environmental Economics, Industrial Ecology, Geography or Computational Landscape and Ecology or related field
- Experience in system dynamics modeling and transformative-change methodologies
- Familiarity with environmental footprint calculators or similar assessment tools
- Knowledge of agro-ecosystems and food supply systems in the context of Cyprus or similar regions
- Experience in design and/or the development of digital platforms and modelling of environmental data, and visualisation (e.g., LCA, EEIO, GIS webservices, ecosystem modelling)
- Experience in R&I projects and deliverables.
- Academic paper writing.
- 1-year relevant experience
- Relevant experience with environmental data
- Good analytical and research skills
- Excellent knowledge of the English language, both verbal and writing
- Demonstrated development ability, outstanding organizational, analytical, problem solving and communication skills (including good knowledge of Python and/or R)
Position Preferred Qualifications:
- Specialization in areas such as Life Cycle Assessment and/or EEIO is highly desirable
- Knowledge of Greek language will be considered an advantage.
Duration of appointment:
The initial period of the appointment will be for a duration of 12 months with the possibility of renewal, depending on performance and availability of funds.
Remuneration details:
Salary Band: CYI3(1-14)
Position’s Starting Salary: CYI3.1 – €30323.41
