SPECIAL SCIENTIST POSITION

The Department of English Studies at the University of Cyprus invites applications for one (1) Special Scientist position in any field/area within Translation Studies for the Fall Semester 2025, pending final approval and funding by the University bodies.

TEACHING REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will be required to teach up to two (2) Translation Studies elective courses.
The elective courses will be open to 3rd and 4th-year students of all tracks (Linguistics, Literature, Translation) who have completed the prerequisite course ENG170 – Introduction to Translation Studies.
The successful candidate will be required to teach and guide students, and to administer and mark the final exam for the course s/he will teach. Teaching duties begin on 08 September 2025, ending on 19 December 2025.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS
Special Scientist remuneration is 68 euro (gross) per teaching hour. Gross payment is made as follows: €68 per hour × teaching hours × 15 weeks for the Fall Semester 2025–26.
For the above positions, there is no provision for the payment of a proportional 13th salary.

QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should hold a PhD in a subject relevant to the areas of the position and have excellent command of both English and Greek.
Applicants need not be citizens of the Republic of Cyprus. Applicants should however ensure, before applying, that in case they are selected they will be residing in Cyprus on a full-time basis during the employment period;
submission of application implies acceptance of this condition. Acceptance of this term must be also explicitly stated in the letter of application.
In case they are selected, candidates from outside the European Union have the responsibility to obtain a visa (if required) and the necessary work permit for their employment in Cyprus in a timely manner, prior to the beginning of their contact and the assumption of their teaching duties.

▪ Indicative title and short description (up to 200 words) for each of the elective courses proposed
▪ Full Curriculum Vitae
▪ Copies of degrees and transcripts. The successful candidate will be asked to submit certified copies from the Ministry of Education of Cyprus (if degrees were acquired in Cyprus) or from the respective institution abroad.

If applying for the first time to the Department, applicants must also arrange for two academic referees to send letters of recommendation directly to it (see below).
In case an applicant is employed in the public or wider public sector of the Republic of Cyprus, she/he must obtain permission to work at the University from the appropriate Department/Ministry, or wider public sector authority, prior to signing their contract.
