Student Activities Assistant

The Student Activities Assistant will assist the Interim Assistant Director of Student Activities in the implementation and promotion of Student Activities sponsored programs. Provide general support for various departmental initiatives.

The individual reports to the Interim Assistant Director of Student Activities, or other staff person appointed by the Interim Associate Dean of Students.

The Rhode Island College Office of Student Activities provides involvement opportunities for students. There is a wide array of possibilities for all students to make the most of their college investment beyond the classroom, including campus events, student organizations, Greek Life, student organizations, and community service. Students who are engaged meet more people, learn new things, and develop a sense of belonging at RIC.

Essential Duties

Supervise the Office of Student Activities student staff to ensure regular programming that meets the needs of our diverse student body.

This includes, but is not limited to, facilitating weekly staff meetings, supervising evening and weekend events and trips as necessary, conducting student employee evaluations, and assisting with working with vendors and contracts.

Assist with advising the Programming Events Board to ensure regular programming that meets the needs of our diverse student body. This includes, but is not limited to, attending weekly executive board and general membership meetings, conducting one-on-one meetings with executive board members, supervising evening and weekend events as necessary, and assisting with working with vendors and contracts. May involve attendance at regional and national NACA conferences.

Coordinate campus programming with other departments, including Residential Life and Housing, Athletics, and New Student Programs.

Assist professional staff with the delivery of special events.

Supervise coordination of Welcome Week, Welcome Back Week, and RIC Week.

Collaborate on planning of campus concerts and major events.

Assist with the promotion campus involvement opportunities through a variety of outreach initiatives, including social media campaigns, announcements to classes, flyer posting, and new, innovative strategies.

Occasional Duties

Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Knowledge of issues related to the Student Affairs profession.

Excellent organization and planning skills to implement multiple, concurrent projects.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, sociology, communications, or a related field.

Experience: Successful involvement in a college or university setting in college student unions and student activities, orientation, leadership programs, civic engagement, first year experience, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications Environmental Conditions

The employee is not exposed to known adverse environmental conditions.

This will be a combination of remote and in-person working (as needed). Candidates who are hired will need to sign a Teleworking Agreement
