Departmental Overview
As a national collegiate leader, UC Berkeley’s University Health Services (UHS) provides comprehensive medical, mental health, insurance and health promotion services to all Berkeley students, and a variety of health programs for faculty and staff. Approximately 65,000 visits occur annually including Primary Care, Urgent Care, Occupational Health and Specialty Clinics. Services are designed to minimize the impact of illness, emotional distress and injury on studies and work. Responsibilities
Case interviews, contact tracing, and isolation/quarantine of affected individuals under public health guidance are key to slowing the spread of COVID-19 and help keep transmission of this disease to a minimum. Coordination of COVID Response Team services and communication with campus and community partners is essential to ensure success of outreach efforts. The following duties will be under supervision of Infection Control Coordinator and Medical Director.
Responsibilities
Program Management Develops and implements policies and procedures for the COVID Response team in in collaboration with Infection Control Coordinator, Medical Director and local health department that ensure UHS processes are in alignment with local and state health department guidelines and orders. Supports operations of the COVID Response team as a skilled case interviewer who will perform all functions of a contact tracer with additional expertise in UHS EMR systems and electronic reporting to Public Health departments including CalREDIE and Cal CONNECT. Primary liaison with UHS IT to develop and maintain clinical documentation processes that provide required data to Occupational Health, Disability Services and EH&S and feeds to campus dashboard data. Communicates and coordinates needed support services from campus partners to support the COVID response team including assistance from Parking & Transportation for transportation for students who needed to be moved to isolation and quarantine, Oversees clinical operations and services for the COVID Response team in the University Health Services (UHS) with attention to compliance with care delivery protocols, and patient satisfaction. Reviews clinic systems, practices and procedures periodically, and makes recommendations to assure continued compliance with current campus policies and external regulations. Works closely with stakeholders (IA, campus housing, Greek community and Berkeley Student Cooperative) to provide relevant and up-to-date information for testing, isolation and quarantine. Coordinates care with health care providers both internal and external to UHS at all levels including local health department. Liaison with the Local Health Department for cases and contacts within City of Berkeley jurisdiction.
ADMIN SUPPORT/COORDINATION: Develops and oversees schedules for non clinical contact tracing team. Ensures that staffing is efficiently coordinated across clinics providing case interviews and contact tracing to meet fluctuating demands. Reviews complex and urgent clinical cases and determines the best utilization of resources within UHS and to minimize risk.
LABS & NURSING ASSESSMENTS Responsible for performing nursing assessments as needed for COVID cases and contacts. Subject matter nurse expert with knowledge of populations at high risk for COVID-19 complications. Provides support to contact tracers when escalation is required. Acknowledges lab results under standing orders for UHS Medical Director. Exercises judgment in selection methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results including timeliness of reporting of COVID-19 lab results. Review charting of non-clinical contact tracing team to ensure continuous quality improvement. Provide feedback to contact tracers needed.
Required Qualifications
Must have supervisory / management training in large healthcare setting.
Solid knowledge of clinic operations, including administration, protocols and procedures.
Solid knowledge of patient need and care assessment.
Broad clinical skills in providing and supervising the appropriate medical care to patients.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, staff members, and other members of the medical community.
Proven expertise in clinical case management.
Education
Bachelor’s of Science or equivalent Nursing degree
License/Certifications
Current and valid California State RN license.
CPR certification .
Public Health certificate recommended
Salary & Benefits
