HERFF JONES, Machine Operator (Monogram 1st & 2 nd shift) – Champaign, IL

YOUR OPPORTUNITY:
The Herff Jones Cap & Gown Manufacturing team, based in Champaign, IL is looking for Machine Operators to join our monogram department. We have both 1st & 2nd shift positions available. 1st shift is Monday – Friday 7am – 3:30 (or 6am – 2:30pm), 2nd shift schedule is Monday – Friday 2pm – 10:30pm.

Here’s How You’ll Make an Impact:
Reporting to the Manufacturing Supervisor, you will be responsible for operating the computer to monogram stoles, accessories, gowns, and pulpit robe velvets.

But don’t worry, we would never ask an employee to take on an assignment they didn’t already have the right skill sets they needed to succeed. As we see it for right now, however, here are the challenges that we want you to tackle:

Read copy of cutting ticket carefully to determine monogram, size, color, and placement.

Use computer to produce the correct loaded hoop on the sewing head and calls up the correct monogram to sew.

Monitor machines to control quality.

Remove sewn pieces, trims threads and removes backing.

Obtain pieces from cutting room for replacements and samples.

Monitor inventory of thread, backing and other supplies, reports to supervisor if supplies are getting low.

Other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring to the Table:
At least six months experience in a similar role, in addition to meeting the following requirements:

High school diploma/GED

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet/exceed efficiency goals

Ability to comprehend and process information

Notice when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong

Concentrate and not be distracted while performing a task

Combine several pieces of information and draw conclusions

Physical Qualifications – daily activity includes but is not limited to lifting, carrying, sitting, fingering, grasping, reaching, standing, kneeling, walking; standing or moving throughout an 8 hour+ shift; be able to regularly lift, push, and pull up to 50lbs; noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to above
